Something to consider for health reasons. Not sure how or if the pollution is going to be addressed moving forward.

That being said, Monterrey looks to be a city with a lot going on and worth a closer look.

We spend our days between Dallas, Monterrey, and Riviera Maya. We have a child and grandchild living in Monterrey and two other children in Dallas. The people of Monterrey are definitely a wonderful representation of Mexican life. There is a big USA influence here, but it is definitely not in the forefront. Unless you are a native, you probably would not notice it. It is a beautiful city surrounded by incredible mountains. MTY airport is an hour at most from anywhere in the city. DFW is a 90-minute flight. Traffic is a monster. Expect long delays in rush hours. Also, be careful where you go. Like any large city, there are places best left unexplored.
Expect wonderful food, festivals, and a deep cultural commitment. I love Monterrey! Our home is to the south in Santiago, 15 kilometers south of the city limits. Nature is a huge part of life with trails, fresh rivers, and Boca lake. If you’re looking to retire on Social Security, you will find prices to be higher than most expat destinations. You will need a car and good tolerance for city traffic. It’s not for the faint of heart. I just let my wife drive!!
