Well said. It’s not the Peso, rather the mindless printing of greenbacks to cover the cost of national security (…errrr … if I remember correctly the last war of the US was in 1846 in which they robbed Mexico of California, AZ, NM and parts of TX). In this context N.S. means feeding the military industrial complex and defending and exporting democracy, which is in shambles in the US lately.

In theory at least, I see it longer term but short term meaning the next 5-10 years it’s not geared that way. If it goes below 16 I can see it strengthening but it would be a massive imbalance.

But this one sort of misses a bit. It presents the exchange rate between the U.S. Dollar and Mexican Peso as if it is only the peso that determines the exchange rate. The fact is, when measured against the U.S. dollar, the peso did appreciate significantly, but so did the euro, the Canadian dollar, the British pound and several other currencies.

Given this, it would appear that the movement had more to do with the U.S. dollar weakening under the Trump regime, than with the peso actually appreciating. Now having said that, the peso did appreciate some against the Euro and other currencies, but not to the same extent as against the dollar. That it appreciated against most major currencies, despite some downward pressures is likely due primarily to the steady and competent leadership of the Sheinbaum administration. Isn’t it amazing what competent, professional governance can do for an economy?

The chart has held up for over 2 decades. Likely will hit 17 ish before bouncing back.

I didn’t realize how lucky I was in 2020 when doing a 20,000km motorcycle trip through Mexico, during Covid. At 25 Pesos to the Dollar, I was in Hog Heaven (well, BMW actually)

All the major currencies have fallen again the peso going back to last April when they hit their highest levels of 2025, not just USD. As a matter of fact, when you look at it from a long term basis, most currencies are down at least 10% vs. the peso within the last five years. British pound and euro are down 11% and 14% respectively in that time frame. And then you have currencies like the Canadian dollar, Aussie dollar, and kiwi (New Zealand dollar) that are down roughly 20-25% against the peso in the last five years. Worst performer is actually the yen, which lost 40% of its value against the peso going back five years (it went down 18% in 2025 alone). The Swiss franc is the only currency whose value remains mostly unchanged vs. the peso within the last five years.

The dollar was weaker than the euro going from parity to $1.17 , the British pound from $1.23 to $1.37 about the same % as the peso. So much for tariffs making the US dollar stronger.

Guess I better have my income be in pesos or euros going forward.
