Right on!

Quarterly corporate profits trumped national welfare in a capitalist system, a system where the peoples and planets environmental welfare is iirrelevant.

Let’s remember that America’s int’l business footprint was very dominant after WWII, such that it was in its best interest to cede ground to others for the sake of a competitive market economy.

US companies took manufacturing jobs away from highly skilled workers, even though they knew it would have negative consequences on Cities, towns, communities, families and state revenue, and brought those jobs to Mexico, where a different language is spoken and a lot of infrastructure hadn’t been built up yet. Why? Corporate quarterly profits. Mexican workers would get up to speed sooner, maybe later, and would work for far lower wages and benefits than their US counterparts. Clearly, jobs are ephemeral even before the latest advances in AI and robotics. China is also going through some (minor?) shocks regarding youth unemployment in the AI age, but their govt has clearer societal goals than corporate owned countries, and may provide some answers to similar situations.
