There isn’t any people power, except to the extent that corporations are people according to the US Supreme Court. As with outsourcing labor, US laws, law enforcement, policies and appointments are all done with the corporate quarterly bottom line in mind. The US must provide for the general welfare, but won’t so long as the incentives are for the growth of profit. Whoever the President is only makes for headlines and sick burns; the structure is unsustainable.

Mexico should continue to trade with its northern neighbors, but should learn their negative lessons as well, and keep as independent and sovereign as possible in doing so. Mexico should continue to put the well being of its citizens in priority and promote Mexican initiatives in business, Mexican solutions to environmental problems and Mexican education to further that aim. There are also many lessons to be learned in Latin America, Asia, Africa and Europe, whether as positive or negative examples. North America and Europe have de-industrialized; Mexico is already proficient on manufacturing based on the old paradigms as a source of less costly labor inputs. Moving forward, there is less that Mexico needs to depend on the north for, other than a big market.

National prosperity is based less on manufactured goods than on services, which is emergent. Outsourcing was intentional, it was not made in careless haste. We need to understand how countries are inter-dependent; Mexico is a good example of that inter-dependence going forward.

As a former Canadian now residing in Mexico and hoping to get my citizenship in the future I would love to see the three countries integrate more closely but this will require all three countries to make changes to their current attitudes.
I believe we can all agree that the US has the heft and weight to make this work. Neither Mexico nor Canada have that ability. We are all dependent on America to anchor us.
China needs to be excluded from the bulk of our trade. Any low cost advantage in manufacturing can be offset by Mexicos impressive productivity and low cost advantage. Even the Chinese are well aware of Mexicos trade superiority.
We need supply lines that are protected and exclusive to North America. We need to focus on all raw materials being available and sourced in North America. Canada and Mexico have huge parts to play here.
We need to secure our borders and respect the borders within our sphere. Mexicans Canadians and Americans have no native right to move to any of the other countries. Each country must respect and support these borders. People should not be annoyed if any government desires to expel illegal immigrants. I’m coming to Mexico completely within Mexicos rules. I applied and a completing each step as requested by the Mexican government.
Drugs are a scourge and we need to stop saying if these people didn’t want it it would not exist. It exists and we all three need to deal with it the same way. We will not tolerate it. With the excellent work that Mexico and the US are doing on the southern border drug dealers are starting to use Canada for their filthy business. At his point Canada is not doing enough. They need to get serious and make it impossible for the gangs to operate. These gangs are Chinese and Mexican. Mexico needs to stop a passive approach to these gangs. They are not the friend of the Mexican people. Quite frankly as a Canadian I could care less if the Americans came into my country with Canada’s permission to destroy these people.
The three amigos need to become true amigos and that requires total honesty and keeping to our individual obligations. I hope we can do it because I believe this triumvirate can rule this century if we get together.

But both countries need to make some changes in the way they govern. The US needs to get off the tariff rheotric and cincentrate more on the people that live there and are citizens. Mexico needs to really transform their government and the way they think and stand up to the Cartels and protect all the people, I read things daily on this news about how the President is getting all these acolades, but has done nothing about children being kidnapped and sold as sex slaves, the same goes for women. I would hope that common sense will prevail and they ask for help from the US.

Your article was very informative and stated in a way that I could easily follow. I do hope that you write more for MND as you hinted at.

Wages are not going up. One full-time job wont provide for a family. Women here work because they have to, as it take 2 incomes to have basic needs met. And sadly, many people men and women, are working 2 jobs and still can’t provide a decent house, car, and food on the table for their families. It’s a shame. We used to be the nation others looked at as powerful and prosperous. That is why many immigrants from other countries wanted to come to the US. Now they see we don’t have it great here, and hate and racism is rapant because if Trump and MAGA. Our government sticks it’s nose where it doesn’t belong and continues to ignore home.

The US National Security that must stand on the three pillars of lowering dependence on China; re-industrializing the American Economy, and Fair Trade rather than Free Trade all of which support the goal of National Security.
However, there is another aspect that puts the urgency to achieving these goals: The inevitable loss of the US Dollar as the World Reserve Currency.
The Western banking system is archaic. It is inadequate for international commerce, and when the West seized Russian assets, it proved to the world that countries have access to their US dollars only on the condition of good behavior. When, not if, the US dollars is replaced as the World Reserve Currency the US is insolvent and Canada, and Mexico which rely on the US dollars brought in by their trade surpluses with the US, are also insolvent. Before this happens it is imperative that the US drastically reduces it Trade Deficit.
So far, despite efforts by China and Russia, the Dollar has remained the World Reserve Currency only because all other currencies are trusted even less than the US Dollar. But a new banking system is being built based on the Blockchain. What evolves is not yet clear but the US is moving to replace US issued Dollars with Stablecoin for international transfers, and people, and countries will then transfer those Stablecoins to local currencies for immediate needs, and to Bitcoin as the store of value.
