I do not pretend or proclaim to be an expert on US/Mexico tax treaties. But I googled and found there is a treaty between the 2 countries entered into force December 28, 1993; effective January 1, 1994. It addresses double taxation between the 2 countries as well as many other topics. I think MND should do the research and write an article about this topic. I would be concerned about paying taxes here on income generated in the US as I am a full time resident living in Puerto Vallarta. I don’t make any income here except interest on my bank account and of course I pay taxes on all the income I generate in the US to the US Dept of the Treasury.

I believe it is only a matter of time before the flow of income received by foreign residents is more closely audited. Few people realize that Mexico already has the legal right to tax the worldwide income of its citizens and tax residents, including individuals who remain in the country for more than 182 days per year. Worldwide income may include investment income, income earned in the United States, rental income, and other foreign sources. Artificial Intelligence will make this much easier for them to conduct audits.
