Overall, quite optimistic but I’d generally agree. I’m most doubtful about #2 (USMCA/CUSMA). Bi-laterals are likely; tri-lateral perhaps not. The Trump Admin. enjoys nothing more than playing off one side against the other. Canada & Mexico need a much stronger direct trading relationship.

Thank you for the website. I appreciate the thoughtful, articulate posts and they help me in finding my way to a more nuanced understanding of my second home. I am glad to called out AMLO’s legacy projects and the likelihood they would gain traction this year. I believe the Tren Maya is a miracle for the Yucatan and its people and I am pained by all the shortsighted, NIMBY comments I see against it. Far too many people Esther don’t think at all before expressing their opinions or, even worse, prefer the populations of the areas it serves to remain dirt poor so they can imagine there is a pristine wilderness somewhere for them to vacation. The hair on fire claims of ecological disaster are particularly galling equating damage to cenotes as a true horror but forgetting to note they are talking about 100’s at best among a population of 7000…. In any event thank you for this site. Happy New Year.

I also predict 2026 is the year that technology to store home and grid solar power in electric vehicles to use for home power use at peak rate in the evening and sell back to the grid at peak helping offset the cost of the EV purchase.

Probably after the negotiations on the USMCA are finished I would hope BYD and their new technology EV vehicles (12 minute charge for a 1,000 km range) can begin being manufactured in Mexico so the tarrifs can be eliminated. Along with an effort by the goverment to provide charging stations at current gas stations. Wouldnt it be nice to have clean air in CDMX and no longer be dependent on imported usa gasoline/diesel?
