I once met a man who had been assigned to teach English at a Mexican public school. He knew zero English but had to teach the class because he was the youngest member of the faculty. He told me the room was full of 30 students, all making noise, and he estimated that only the ones in the first three rows could hear him.

If each kid in the back rows could have their own private AI teacher, wouldn’t that be an improvement? And, by the way, no reading is required to communicate with AI.

AI is worthless if you can’t do that, and 50% of children in Mexico cannot read at even the lowest level of proficiency according to PISA scores. I was in a public school 10 days ago, 2km from the center of town where Starbucks has great internet, The school of 900 students, no library, no books, 25 computers and internet that would make a dial up connection seem like broadband.

And its many mistakes keeps you constantly on your toes.

Haha well, I’ve been wrong before, and u hope I am now! 😅 Instinctively though, I’m extremely suspicious of a technology we understand so little about and that’s historically not been great about installing guardrails on itself.

Says Luis “Luigi” Medina: “When we first tried this at IMI the staff had the same reaction as Sarah… but eventually they understood the advantages, and now they love AI. The same thing happened at the Knotion schools and now, eight years later, the students’ scores are outstanding.”

You are correct. Why bother to learn how to think… your AI will do it for you. Creepy..

(Not the writing, but the concept of an AI school).

A generation that doesn’t know how to do things without (still faulty, mind you) AI is a generation that will not learn how to think critically or learn how to tolerate the frustration of not having every answer at their fingertips. “…between people who know and don’t know how to use AI”? Give me a break; it’s not hard to give prompts. It IS hard to recognize when the answers it spits back to you are wrong if there’s no training on how to verify them. Sending the youngest into the Wild West of AI to me sounds like the worst idea ever, and is the opposite of an advertisement of this school. Yikes.
