Well said. I’ve been traveling to Mexico since 1975 and owned a condo there for 10 years. The cartel problem started in the 1970’s as i recall (Netflix Narcos if accurate supported this narrative). 1st trips were to Mazatlán close to Culiacan heart of the Sinaloa cartel. Those trips were worry free and there was never any mention of the cartel issue’s until late 90’s and 2000’s. We started time share in Cabo in 2000 and cartel violence was bad although very seldom. Mexico MUST take out the cartel’s. I met a driver delivering to my business from Michocan and he told me growing up in Mexco was always a grift by cartels and politicans.

An actual figure from MND of 60-70+% of Mexicans living in real fear of extortion, kidnapping, killing, “recruiting”, etc negates most of this opinion. Mexico needs help. However, as others have said, this is a complex deep culture issue. Internal corruption and mordida culture goes back hundreds of years to Spanish roots. Killing some cartelers is putting a bandaid on cancer. Plus killing off part of one group empowers another. Enforcement needs to be combined with education and culture change over time.
