In reply to NomadNoMore. Yes they charge for this hike, but I think people pay willingly because, apparently, the entire fee goes straight to the local cmmunities. Their upcoming hikes seem to get booked as fast as they are announced.

This sounds like something I have been looking for to become deeper into the ecology of the state. I don’t believe the guides do it for free. I’ve hiked more than few times in the Zapotec region where local guides are often required and there is always a fee but not a tip expected. When not required there is often an access fee. I think it is a fair price to pay to help them to preserve their community and the ecosystem as well as to understand the history and culture of the region.
