I was there in the 70’s…..one of my girlfriends and I decided to check it out. We were in our 20’s. There were only a couple of hotels there and we stayed at the Camino real. We rented a jeep and drove a beach road to tulum (only road at the time) it took hours to get there and it was only ruins at that time, not a single store or anything around. On the way back we stopped at a palapa on the beach about half way, drank a few margaritas and continued back to the hotel. It was such a peaceful great day! We travel to Riviera Maya every year now and I always look around and think about that time of tranquility on that coast. I feel blessed to have experienced it.
