Well said John, I would like to hoist a pint to you. i was in Chavezs Venezuela many years ago, so much hope by the people but eventually crippled by US sanctions under Maduro resulting in mass emigration. Maduro is not by any means a brutal dictator but the popularly elected president of Venezuela.

Venezuelans positive about Maduro’s ouster as a start. Mexicans with no shown link to Venezuela protesting. There was a legitimately elected government Maduro refused to acknowledge.
Le’s figure out how to support the government Venezuela really elected

You probably wouldn’t notice the irony of Trump’s pardoning and releasing from prison convicted cocaine trafficker and former Honduran president Hernandez just a few weeks before arresting “drug trafficker” Maduro. It is very clear to me that you have blind loyalty to Trump, and not to the US Constitution. You don’t deserve the US, you should be happy in Saudi Arabia, or Russia, where the rulers are clearly above the law.

Here’s the hard reality. You have three more years of a Trump administration while you hate the whole world, then probably 4 years of a Vance presidency. And to top it off, you have at least a generation (maybe two) of living under a very conservative Supreme Court. So you have two choices. Either get your act together and enjoy your life, or suffer through you mental issues for seven more years. It must be miserable inside your head.

In some ways that is better than if he were another American Concern! Colonizer. “We have to save the children! Their women aren’t able to go to school! He’s a dictator!” All the while we punish these same citizens with innocuous-sounding sanctions, which according to the August 2025 issue of Lancet (Volume 13 Issue 8) killed on average 564,268 people over the 50 year period from 1971 through 2021. These sanctions also wreck the economy of the targeted country, which serves as an excuse to ‘do something!’ about it, meaning ‘regime change’.

Pre-Chavez Venezuela was great if you were a foreign oil company or one of the small minority of wealthy people. Few Venezuelans were ‘qualified’ to vote, even when there were opportunities. Chavez’ Bolivarian government brought millions out of abject poverty, organized communities and used the nationalization of Venezuelan oil to benefit citizens and other poor people outside of Venezuela. Countering misery is an affront to the US government, despite the rhetoric. Our media serve as a circus ringmaster: “Ladies and gentlemen, allow me to direct your attention to . . . ” When was the last time the news reported on head chopping in Saudi Arabia? Probably not recently, because for the moment, the Saudis are somewhat in the good graces of powerful people. Subject to change; and when change comes, suddenly there will be calls to save the poor Saudi women and/or children. Our best course of action is to demand an end to sanctions, and to respect the sovereignty of other nations. (Impeachment would be nice in the USA, but probably wouldn’t fundamentally change anything but the tone.)
